Thompson's Lake State Park
The Campsite:
Our campsite today encompasses 125 acres of waterfront, mixed hardwood and conifer forests, limestone outcroppings, and open spaces blooming with wildflowers. The 140 wooded campsites offer quiet and secluded camping with restroom and shower facilities. An excellent bathing beach, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a playground area for children, as well as boating (carry in only) and fishing opportunities are available for your enjoyment. Throughout the summer, day and evening programs feature environmental education, arts and crafts, sports tournaments and holiday special events. Thompsons' Lake nature trails will acquaint you with some of the park's natural communities and ecology. In addition, you may wish to visit the trails and picnic sites at nearby John Boyd Thacher State Park. In the winter, join us for ice fishing and cross-country skiing.
Camping is permitted from mid-May through Columbus Day. Rates are subject to change. Camping reservations are available through New York State Camping Reservation System at 1-800-546-AMP (site specific). Boats may be rented at park entrance. All persons in boat must wear life preservers and there must be an adult in the boat at all times. Rental hours are from 8 am to 8 pm. For a campsite map please click here.
Park Rules:
All persons must register at the park entrance upon arrival. Registered visitors may stay in the park until 10:00 pm. Campers must vacate sites by 11:00 am the day their permit expires. Pets must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Proof rabies vaccination is required for dogs. Bulk alcohol by permit only. Apply at the entrance. Keep noise levels to a minimum. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Recycling is mandatory. Bins are located at dumpster sites. Children under 10 years old must be supervised by an adult.
Beach Rules:
The beach is open for swimming from 10 am to 6 pm. No swimming is allowed without a lifeguard on duty. Children under 10 years old must be closely supervised by an adult at all times. No glass containers or alcoholic beverages are allowed on the beach. No pets are allowed on beach.
Directions:
Thompson's Lake State Park is located ~18 miles southwest of Albany. From Albany, take exit 4 (Route 85) off I-90. Continue on 85 west for approximately 12 miles and bear right onto Route 157. Continue on 157 through Thacher Park until you see the sign for Thompsons Lake State Park on the right.
