“Ecology and Behavior of Fishers in Suburbia” on 2-17, at 2pm (Thacher Visitor Center)

Fishers had all but disappeared from our region, but sightings of this native weasel have become common in recent years. Learn about the natural history of fishers, and the ecological and behavioral insights uncovered during a suburban fisher research project near Albany, New York. Dr. Scott LaPoint will talk about his research using high-resolution GPS tracking data, accelerometer-derived motion data, camera trap detections, and snow tracking efforts to document both very typical fisher behaviors, and a few very atypical and fascinating adaptations.
